University Centre South Devon introduces new Torquay United Higher Education Development programme

South Devon College’s recent partnership with Torquay United Football Club has proved to be rewarding for the College and its students, with the introduction of the new Torquay United Higher Education Development programme. This programme gives students the chance to combine a passion for football with studying for their degree in sports coaching and fitness at University Centre South Devon (UCSD).

“We are very excited to extend our partnership with Torquay United, working together to deliver successful degrees in the sports industry. Students will now have the opportunity to combine higher level qualifications with real world experience in a high performing environment. We are grateful to Torquay United for supporting opportunities for our students to contribute in the areas of coaching, performance analysis and strength, and conditioning, with these experiences offering realistic pathways into employment. The College are also providing local footballers with the opportunity to continue playing in a Higher Education environment upon leaving school or college with those at the required level being able to step up and train with Torquay United.“ ‚Äì Ben Roper, Higher Education Academic Coordinator.

The opportunity of working with Torquay United will be available to those studying FdSc Sports Coaching and Fitness or BSc Coaching – Sports Performance and Development at UCSD. The benefits of this programme includes:

  • Weekly training sessions and British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league fixtures
  • Opportunities to train with Torquay United Football Club (TUFC) 1st Team
  • Work experience opportunities with TUFC (coaching, performance, analysis and media)
  • Access to state of the art teaching and training facilities
  • Additional coaching qualifications
  • Trips and visits
  • Opportunities to be involved in Devon Football Association’s ‚ÄòFootball Futures Leadership and Volunteering programme

This early development of our partnership with TUFC shows great promise for the future of what students will learn, experience and achieve studying sports coaching degrees at University Centre South Devon.
