On Thursday 31st October 2019, South Devon College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Inha Technical College who are based in South Korea. Principal and CEO of South Devon College, Laurence Frewin, signed the agreement with the President of Inha Technical College, Dr In-Joo Chin, who is visiting with Director of Research and Industry Cooperation, Professor Sung-Chan Kim, and Professor Uh-Cheol Jeong from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
The purpose of the MoU is to engage in a student and staff exchange programme with the potential for collaboration on a range of projects. The beginning of this agreement will see marine and automotive curriculum areas supported, along with travel and tourism. But there is a high chance many more areas will benefit from this partnership moving forward.
Inha Technical College’s mission is to nurture professional workers that become leaders in the 21st Century and exceed the educational goals of not only training theories and techniques, but nurturing trustworthy characters. They meet this mission by delivering a variety of specialist programmes, encourage strong cooperation with the industry, and have strong programmes of continuous education that are designed on their local community needs.
The South Korean college delivers programmes in a variety of engineering areas, such as mechanics, automotive, naval architecture, ocean engineering, Earth environmental engineering, and much more. South Devon College shares some of the specialist areas that Inha Technical College provides but there is considerable benefit to both parties in sharing curriculum areas that the other doesn’t offer.
Principal and CEO of South Devon College, Laurence Frewin, said: “These are great times for South Devon College. It is brilliant to be able to continue building an international network of partners and collaborators. I look forward to seeing the opportunities this new agreement provides both us and Inha Technical College as we work closely together moving forward.”
Assistant Principal – Lead for Hi-Tech and Digital at South Devon College, Steve Caunter, said: “I’m excited by the partnership we have formed with Inha Technical College as we support them in their curriculum areas. The student and staff cultural exchange programme will bring a new dynamic not only to the technical skills that we teach, but also strengthen the work with our partners to widen participation and support student progression.”
