Timothy Morgan, 19, is currently sailing the Clipper Round the World Race. He has recently completed his first year in FdSc/HNC Marine Technologies with a distinction overall but he has deferred for a year to complete this mammoth task. He is sailing as part of a 57 member crew and is the youngest sailor in team Seattle.
Team Seattle are currently in 8th position in the race but having been following the tracker, there isn’t much in it. All the teams are close together meaning the slightest error could spell disaster for any team at this point. All the competitors are berthed at the Yacht Club Punta del Este following the conclusion of Race 2 and ahead of the start of Race 3 on 23rd October to Cape Town.
Tim and his crew set off on 1st September at 3pm, from London as Tower Bridge lifted to clear the way for the race to commence.
Matt Prowse, Tim’s Lecturer in Marine Engineering said:
“Tim is a hard-working student who has a natural flare for yacht design and the experience of this race will only add to his already substantial knowledge of the working environment of global racing yachts.”
It’s a fantastic opportunity for Tim. South Devon College is cheering him on and will continue to follow the progress of the race. Stay tuned for more updates on how Tim gets on.
