The South Devon Business Awards was a fantastic cause for celebration for many businesses on Thursday 10th October, including South Devon College who won awards for both ‘Best Digital/Tech Business’ and ‘Outstanding Business of the Year’.
Winning the award for ‘Best Digital/Tech Business’ comes as a result of the successful development and implementation of a business plan to create a Hi Tech & Digital department which is specifically aimed at supporting the technical and digital needs of South Devon businesses at all levels. This is a positive strategic shift to continue to meet the needs of not only the growing local Hi-Tech industry but other sectors too.
The award recognised how the College has been developing a curriculum that recognises strategic and innovative approaches to meeting employers’ needs for their workforce and its training and development. This has been met by continuing to teach and train skilled and qualified students, who are either ready to enter employment or are already working, and who will make a significant contribution to the economic development of Torbay and the wider region.
All this forms part of why the College won ‘Outstanding Business of the Year’. South Devon College was chosen by the judges because the College is not only a continuously growing business in its own right, but has continued to develop high quality and innovative teaching and learning to meet the needs of its students creating important new education and training to support local skills improvement which have had a positive impact for students and employers in South Devon and the wider South West.
Principal and CEO of South Devon College, Laurence Frewin, said: “It was a brilliant evening and we couldn’t have dreamed of a more successful night for South Devon College. I would also like to congratulate former Principal and CEO, Stephen Criddle OBE, who won the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and thank him for the key role he has played in South Devon College’s development over the last decade and the legacy he has left. I am now looking forward to what lies ahead for the College for the next decade and am delighted that all of the hard work of our amazing and committed staff, to continue to provide individuals with self-belief, skills and training to go into the world and make a difference, has been so widely recognised.”
